Summary

BYD's 2026 model-year changes split by proof: Europe's Atto 3 EVO arrives with a printed 800-volt, 220 kW spec sheet, while in Malaysia the Sealion 7 update is battery-and-price, the Atto 3 facelift carries the launch-reported Evo powertrain, and the 800-volt…

BYD's 2026 updates divide by how much proof travels with them: Europe's new hardware arrives with printed figures, Malaysia's still carries the launch coverage's question marks, and the fastest charging of all is documented only in China. In Europe, the Atto 3 EVO is the confirmed case: an 800-volt electrical architecture, 220 kW DC charging, up to 510 km of WLTP range from a 74.8 kWh battery, and a 10–80% charge in 25 minutes on the rear-drive version [1].

In Malaysia, the 2026 Sealion 7 launched at RM163,800 with 91.3 kWh and a new base Dynamic variant [2], while the 800-volt claims around the country's 2026 BYD launches still carry the outlets' own question marks [3] [4]. In China, the Seal 06 GT pairs the second-generation Blade Battery with a flash-charging system that the launch writeup says takes the pack "from 10% to 70% in roughly five minutes, and to 97% in about nine minutes" [5].

The Atto 3 EVO: the upgrade with full specs attached

The Atto 3 EVO launched in Europe on February 11 as "a major technological leap over the standard Atto 3 and a showcase for the company's latest 800-volt e-Platform 3.0" [1]. Both trims share the 74.8 kWh Blade battery — spec listings put it at 499.2 V, even as the launch positions the platform as 800-volt — and the same 220 kW DC fast-charging capability [1] [6].

The Design RWD runs a 230 kW / 380 Nm rear motor: 0–100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, 510 km WLTP combined with 710 km on the city cycle, 16.4 kWh/100 km, 1,880 kg, and a printed 10–80% charge time of 25 minutes [1]. The Excellence AWD adds a 100 kW induction motor up front for a combined 330 kW / 560 Nm and cuts the sprint to 3.9 seconds, trading range for it: 470 km WLTP combined, 630 km city, 17.8 kWh/100 km, 1,990 kg, with a head-up display standard [1].

Kit is common to both: a 101-litre frunk, a 490-litre boot, a heat pump, heated rear seats and a flat rear floor, seven airbags, 22 driver-assistance functions and a rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen; BYD bills the drivetrain as the "world's first mass-produced 8-in-1 electric powertrain" and the pack as ultra-safe — both maker claims [1].

As of late October, BYD's own European Atto 3 page still describes "the design of the e-Platform 3.0" and links a leaflet dated April 2025 [7]. The EVO's rollout runs market by market, and BYD's storefront has not yet caught up with its own February launch.

Malaysia: a cheaper Sealion 7, an Evo Atto 3, the volts unconfirmed

Malaysia's 2026 cars carry real changes, with one open question running through both. The Atto 3 facelift launched on June 5 with what the launch report calls the Evo upgrade "designed for the European market", headlined at up to 313 PS, 510 km WLTP, 220 kW DC charging and a from-price of about RM126,000 [8].

The trim split is confirmed at equipment level: two variants, Ultra and Premium, and the airbag count differs — six on the Ultra, seven on the Premium plus front cross-traffic braking and traffic-sign recognition [8]. Buyers responded: 1,000 orders in the first 10 days [4].

Inside, the removal of the kettlebell-like gear lever makes room for twin phone holders, one of them a 50 W wireless charger with cooling [4]. What the coverage leaves unconfirmed is the number that matters to charging speed.

Paultan's own gallery headline still poses it as a question: "RM126k FWD, or RM139k RWD with 800V architecture?" [4]

The Sealion 7 update landed on July 30 [2] with the 91.3 kWh battery and a new base Dynamic variant from RM163,800 [2] — RM20,000 under the RM183,800 at which the pre-update range started, with the Performance at RM199,800; both were tax-free 2025 figures [3]. The teaser headline promised up to 502 km WLTP and asked "800V charging?" — the question mark is the outlet's [3].

Confirmed equipment includes nine airbags with a far-side driver unit, five colours with Ultraviolet reserved for the Premium, and a complimentary V2L adapter plus a three-pin Type 2 cable [2]. The pack itself is no mystery: 2025 spec listings already showed a Sealion 7 Excellence AWD with 91.3 kWh at 537.6 V [6].

For imported cars, Malaysia's revised EV import policy, in force from July 1, adds a floor: fully imported CBUs must now carry a minimum CIF value of RM200,000, duties excluded — a landed-cost figure, not a sticker price [3].

Seal 06 GT: five-minute stops, with Chinese addresses

China's Seal 06 GT is where BYD's 2026 battery headline lives. The launch cars carry the second-generation Blade Battery and a flash-charging system whose headline times — 10–70% in roughly five minutes, 97% in about nine — are BYD's claim as the launch writeup relays it; BYD adds that the penalty at −30 °C is about three minutes [5].

BYD quotes range at up to 520 km or 620 km depending on version, sells the car from CNY 128,900 to 169,900 across four versions — 520, 520 Plus, 620 Plus and 620 Max — and counts about 5,000 flash-charging stations across nearly 300 cities as of early April, targeting 20,000 by year-end [5]. The motors are single units of 240 kW or 200 kW on a 4,630 mm body with a 2,820 mm wheelbase [5].

At the top of BYD's own charging claims sits the Super e-Platform, unveiled in March 2025: a 1,000-volt, 1-megawatt architecture promising "5 minutes of charging for 400 kilometers of range", which went to the Han L and Tang L pre-orders in China [9]. The Atto 3 EVO's 800-volt e-Platform 3.0 is a different architecture from that system: 220 kW DC fast charging, against megawatt-class hardware [1] [9].

What the 2026 updates are worth

Europe gets the 2026 update with the most proof behind it, and its one open choice is the trim: the rear-drive Design for range, the Excellence AWD for the 3.9-second sprint [1]. In Malaysia, the Sealion 7 update is battery-and-price, the Atto 3 facelift carries the launch-reported Evo powertrain, and the 800-volt claims alone remain unconfirmed in the coverage reviewed [2] [3] [4] [8].

The five-minute charge remains documented in China alone [5] [9]. Two facts would move this picture: voltage figures in BYD Sime Motors' own Malaysian specification sheets, and Atto 3 EVO pricing on BYD's European site, which as of late October carried no EVO figures [7].
