- Luxeed adds a new 81-kWh entry-level version of the RX SUV, with the starting pre-sales price cut by 10% from before.

Luxeed, the EV brand jointly created by Huawei and Chery (HKEX: 9973), on Sunday added a smaller-battery, lower-priced version of the RX coupe SUV (sport utility vehicle).
The new version, which carries an 81-kWh battery pack, opened for pre-orders today at a pre-sales price starting at 269,800 yuan ($39,960). That is 30,000 yuan, or 10%, lower than the model's previous starting pre-sales price of 299,800 yuan.
The new version is likewise offered in 2 variants: the one equipped with a co-optical-path in-cabin LiDAR starts at 269,800 yuan, while the one featuring an architecture designed for L3 autonomous driving starts at 329,800 yuan.
The Luxeed RX opened for pre-orders on August 20, when it was offered only with the larger 100-kWh battery pack, at pre-sales prices ranging from 299,800 yuan to 359,800 yuan.
Zhao Changjiang, Luxeed's executive director and executive vice president, said 70% of those who have pre-ordered the RX are buyers adding a vehicle to a household that already owns another car.
"Not everyone needs a bigger battery, but everyone who loves driving deserves a car that is truly good to drive," Zhao said on Weibo.
Zhao said that with energy consumption well controlled, the 81-kWh version is sufficient for daily commuting and weekend trips.
Positioned as a mid-to-large all-electric coupe SUV, the Luxeed RX is built on Huawei's Tuling platform. It measures 5,020 mm in length, 2,007 mm in width and 1,585 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm.
The model is available in single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations, and is the first to feature Huawei's next-generation high-performance electric drive system.
The battery is based on Huawei's Giant Whale battery platform, with previously filed capacities of 100.424 kWh, 100.256 kWh and 81.1 kWh, and a CLTC range of up to 852 kilometers.
The vehicle is equipped with 38 fused-sensing sensors, including an 896-channel dual-optical-path imaging-grade LiDAR and 3 high-precision solid-state LiDAR units.
Richard Yu, Huawei's executive director and chairman of its consumer business group, said at the August 20 event that the Luxeed RX adopts an architecture designed for L3 autonomous driving.
The lower price puts the Luxeed RX in more direct competition with the Xiaomi (HKEX: 1810) YU7, whose standard version starts at 233,500 yuan.
Luxeed's current lineup includes the S7 sedan, the R7 coupe SUV and the V9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle). The RX will be its fourth model and is expected to officially launch this fall.
