Details regarding the SAIC-Volkswagen ID. Era 5X has surfaced following its appearance in the latest Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) catalogue. The ID. Era 5X is the first BEV model from ID. Era series after ID. Era 9X and ID. Era 5S. The ID. Era 5X is also the brand’s first mass-produced model globally to be built on the Compact Main Platform (CMP) platform (Co-developed with Xpeng) and equipped with the CEA electrical/electronic architecture.
Design and dimensions The ID. Era 5X maintains the established ID. Era family design language. The front fascia features a continuous daytime running light strip with the Volkswagen logo centred and the main headlamp clusters positioned on either side below. The side profile adopts a sporty “small fastback” silhouette, complemented by a rear spoiler at the top of the tailgate.
In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 4,560mm in length, 1,896mm in width, and 1,630mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,815mm. Customers will have a choice of 17, 18, or 19-inch wheels. Optional customisations include various lighting elements, bumpers, side window trim, a panoramic sunroof, and roof racks.

Intelligence The ID. Era 5X is equipped with a new LiDAR system and the “Xingyun” intelligent assisted driving system, enabling true end-to-end L2++ Urban NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) capabilities. Inside, the vehicle will feature the “Yunqi” smart cockpit, designed to provide a more convenient and efficient human-machine interaction experience.
Performance and power The ID. Era 5X is powered by a pure electric drivetrain. The electric motor delivers a peak power of 155 kW (208 hp). Energy is supplied by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack sourced from CATL.

According to our previous report, Volkswagen may bring these China-developed series to Europe for sale.
