Candidates are only mathematically close in diameter — no claim about availability, load rating or vehicle fitment. Verify wheel width, load index and the vehicle manual before buying.
How it is calculated
Every combination of 165–345mm width (step 10), 25–85 aspect (step 5) and 14–22in rim gets its theoretical diameter, diffed against the stock size in percent.
Results keep only candidates within the tolerance — ±3% by default — sorted by absolute difference. Positive means the candidate is taller, negative shorter.
This is a geometry-only screen: candidates may not exist in the market, and load index, speed rating and wheel-width fit are unchecked. Verify the vehicle manual and the tire maker's fitment table before buying.
How to fill each field
- Diameter tolerance±3% is the common reference. ±5% or ±10% lists more candidates — with more speedometer error and fitment risk.
- Rim size'Same rim' lists only sizes that reuse the stock wheel; a specific inch value finds upsize/downsize fits.
- Compare linkEach row's 'Compare →' loads the pair into the comparator for per-metric diffs and diagrams.
FAQ
What sizes run close to 225/45R17?
Its theoretical diameter is 634.3mm; same-rim candidates inside ±3% include 215/50R17 (646.8mm, +2.0%) and 235/45R17 (643.3mm, +1.4%) — the full ranked list is above.
Can I buy any candidate straight off the list?
Not without checks — the list filters on diameter only and does not verify load index, speed rating, wheel width or vehicle fitment.
Why no pressure recommendation?
Pressure depends on the tire load-inflation standard and the vehicle's axle loads — it cannot be derived from size. Follow the door-placard or the tire maker's fitment guidance.
What does the sign of the diff mean?
Positive means the candidate is taller (the speedometer reads slower than true); negative means shorter (reads faster). Smaller absolute values change geometry the least.
